A place in the Premier League is up for grabs in the Championship play-off final

The Championship play-off final takes place on Saturday with both Aston Villa and Fulham desperate to secure a return to the Premier League.

The richest game in football is estimated to be worth upwards of £160 million to the winner, with Villa having overcome Middlesbrough to reach the final and Fulham battling past Derby.

Fulham have finally ended their long wait for a trip to Wembley – 43 years since they last played there in the FA Cup final, while Villa reached Wembley in the 2015 FA Cup final against Arsenal.

Fulham and Aston Villa’s head to head record could not be any closer in 68 games between the two sides as they have both won 23 whilst drawing 22 times. Dabblebet have Fulham as slight favourites at 13/10, whereas Aston Villa are 9/4, and the draw is 21/10.

It’s all or nothing for these two teams in their last game of the season.

Fulham will feel they deserve a place in the Premier League after enjoying a 23-game unbeaten and finishing in third place, five points ahead of Villa.

The future of the club could be at stake with the core of their squad set to be raided if they fail to gain promotion. Ryan Sessegnon, Tom Cairney and Ryan Fredericks won’t be short of suitors if they lose on Saturday, while loanees Aleksandar Mitrovic, Matt Targett, Tomas Kalas and Lucas Piazon would all return to their parent clubs.

Aston Villa are a team geared for big games, with players like John Terry, Glen Whelan and Mile Jedinak having all experienced the pressure before.

The game will be won or lost in the midfield. Fulham’s midfield three have been lauded as the best in the league whereas the experience that Villa have in the middle of the park will come in handy.

One man who could make all the difference is Aboubakar Kamara as he has changed games against both Derby and Sunderland in recent weeks and he is the perfect combination of pace and strength with his hurdling background.

Villa will be hoping the Championship’s top creator Robert Snodgrass’s talent shines through in this game, as his set-piece prowess and long-range strikes have served Villa well this season.

So much is at stake in this game and the Championship play-off final is always one of the greatest games of the season. For one set of supporters, there will be jubilation at full-time, but there will be heartbreak for the other. This year it is impossible to call.
